About School

In the year 1975 Bishop Gilbert Rego then the Bishop of the Shimla Chandigarh was anxious and concerned about the new Parish of St.Joseph at Kalka. Started by Fr. Xavier situated on the Ambala Road in Haryana at the foot of the himalayas. It was an important place. If the M.S.A could help in the apostolate it would be great. Bishop wanted the sister to stay in the church premises and run a primary School, visit the neighbouring village and run a dispensary for the poor. The then Mother General Mother Jovita fell in line with the request and formed the first community in june 1975. The Community members were Sr. Annetta (S), Sr. Gerarda and Sr. Vandana teacher Sr. Irene (Nurse). The aim of starting the M.S.A. Community was to give the primary Education to the children in an English Medium, Co-education school and to be a witnessing community by the apostolic work of the school, dispensary and social work.

The people were delighted to have a “Sophia Primary School”. The admission to the school took place on 15th July 1975 and Anjali Sahani was the first to come. The first Head Mistress was Sr. Gerarda. The school continued in a shed till 1983. The new class rooms were constructed by 1983 and class I – IV were shifted and evening Balwadi & Needle work classes were continued in the same building. School started with 100 student on roll and 6 teachers. Now the strength is 1437 and 45 teachers.

Fr. Anthony established contacts with people and used his influence to give many people stand in life. He used his initiative and hard work to get the land in the village of Tipra. Fr. took a keen interest in the social work. With the help, tailoring & literary classes were organised. In 1986 he was transferred and Fr. Jose took charge as Parish Priest & Manager.

In the year 1988 there was the strong proposal to raise the Sophia Primary school to the standard of High School and get affiliated to the C.B.S.E. Since there was no high school in the area Sr. Johannis & Fr. Jose worked for NOC, at the same time it was decided with the parents to take building Fund from every child. In the year 1992 Fr. Jose was transferred and Fr. John Bosco took over as the Parish Priest & Manager. Sr. Fabina as Principal. The school gets affiliation to the C.B.S.E. and it is raised to Std. Xth. The Ist batch of the student appeared for the Board Examination in 1993 & secured percent results which is maintained to this year. After 1998 Fr. John Bosco was transferred and Fr. Zacharias took over as Parish Priest & Manager. Sr. Gerarda the Ist H.M. upto Sr. Sheela we have 17 Principals.
